MA Update#1

Last Friday, I started a survey on the website I will be using as a case study – MOG.com, to illustrate the value of user-generated content, how users reflect on the practices surrounding UGC, why do they participate in creating content…. If you are a MOGger and haven’t participated in the survey, please do so (but with the help of David Hyman, the founder of the site, my requests have been ubiquitous, therefore I am thanking everyone who decided to help me).
Meanwhile, while the data is pilling up, I am working on the theoretical chapter, for which Nicholas Gane’s and David Beer’s book New Media: The Key Concepts helped a lot for understanding basic ideas, which I am using to outline the environment which contributed to the emergence of web 2.0 and subsequently UGC.
It appears that new book by Lawrence Lessig Remix could be helpful. The CC licensed version will appear in May, too late for my dissertation.
……
Facebook turned five today. I have been a member since June 2007, not long then. But little before the appearance of monster applications. Still the best way to keep up with friends living far away. Helped me get through my year and few months abroad.
Believe it or not, Facebook is still to make real money, even though all us spend a considerable time there.
The book, waiting to be read, about that (and many more Silicon Valley boom makers) is Sarah Lacy’s Once You Are Lucky, Twice You’re God.
Yesterday, I joined Twitter to see what the fuss is about. Follow me, talk to me. Or help me choose a nicely designed background.
