gmail outage freakout

The web as a platform is not there yet. This morning’s Gmail outage warned us about “putting all the eggs in one basket”. Google is indispensible, but not infallible.
While some predicted the end of the world, Microsoft’s Mel Carson twittered about new Windows mail.

I’m doing lots of e-mailing through Facebook, find it quite convenient. Still, with two gmail addresses, this collapse was more than noticed

FCB is good for friends, but you can not apply for jobs through Facebook.
The whole shtick of Google is that you don’t need anything else, everything is on Google - docs, mail, reader, calendar … you can access it through your mobile, iphone, some ipods also have internet access. The thought of that scares me a bit.

Few days ago, GMail went down. I don’t know how long it lasted. i was at my home trying to get to read my mail for at least 30 minutes, then I had to leave.
You either got “sever error number …” or it refused to load for minutes on end.
I actually thought that my computer got hit by a virus, this testifies how much I trust Google (they could not possibly go wrong), then I went to Twitter and saw that everyone was raving about that. Wow, a huge load off my shoulder.
